AI for Clinicians
The use of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) in health care is growing exponentially as the health system generates more data and increases its utilization of telemedicine. The incorporation of AI/ML presents providers, payers, pharmaceutical and biotechnology professionals and many other health care providers (HCPs) with multiple opportunities to use this data to advance improved health outcomes, a cohesive approach to care and improved health system processes.
This activity presents experts who can guide learners in practices that can realize the opportunities presented by AI/ML and gathers input from practitioners and leaders across UnitedHealth Group. Participants will learn about important operations that are invisible to everyday workflow, as well as patient- and member-facing solutions. The cases presented will enable learners to identify AI opportunities within their clinical processes and determine how best to create and incorporate teams that can help realize AI/ML-related improvements in care and health care system processes.
This activity is jointly provided by OptumHealth Education, the Center for Clinician Advancement, OptumLabs and the Center for Advanced Clinical Solutions.

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of counselors, educators, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, PAs, physicians, psychologists, social workers, therapists and other HCPs interested in AI/ML.
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the possibilities of AI-coordinated health care, including situations in which AI may not be the best solution
- Review the basics of AI/ML and data science and the current and potential roles it can fulfill in health care and other venues
- Identify opportunities within the participants’ own clinical processes in which AI-coordinated health care can enhance these processes and outcomes
