Visual Field Testing: Clinical Indications, Documentation and Coding

Activity description

This activity provides an in-depth, evidence-based survey of current and emerging strategies for applying visual field diagnostic test findings to patient care and management. Upon completion, participants will be able to understand the principles and clinical applications of visual field testing; recognize common visual field defects associated with ocular and neurologic disease; consider visual field findings in the context of patient care; and apply appropriate documentation, coding and billing practices to support evidence-based clinical decision-making.

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of optometric physicians and nurses involved in the assessment of ocular and neurologic conditions through the appropriate selection, documentation and reporting of visual field testing.

At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the role of visual field testing in the assessment of ocular and neurologic conditions.
  • Differentiate common visual field-testing methods and associated clinical indications.
  • Apply visual field-testing findings, documentation requirements and coding considerations to clinical scenarios.
