This activity consists of recorded presentations from the "30th Annual National Conference" held virtually Sept. 29–30, 2021.

Join us during this session to gain a new perspective on what is considered essential to many patients throughout the continuum of transplant care, such as communication, compassion, and discussion of expectations and quality-of-life goals. Hearing the experiences of patients who have undergone transplant procedures will provide additional insight into realizing a holistic approach to care based on an understanding of how patients perceive their illness, the transplant process (from diagnosis to procedure to postoperative management), and the potential impact on their lives.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of case managers, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, physicians, psychologists, social workers and other health care professionals who are interested in transplant patient care.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe key aspects of the patient experience and essentials of patient care throughout the transplant process from diagnosis through postoperative management.
  • Identify the ways in which transplantation can impact the life of the patient. 
  • Discuss expectations and quality-of-life goals for patients undergoing transplant.

If the activity is dietetics-related but not targeted to RDs or DTRs, CPEUs may be claimed which are commensurate with participation in contact hours (One 60 minute hour=1 CPEU).

Psychologists and social workers
Participants must have attended the entire Web-based activity and completed an evaluation to receive a certificate. Partial credit is not available.

OptumHealth Education is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to offer continuing education for psychologists. OptumHealth Education maintains responsibility for this program. 1.0 CE hour.

Social Workers

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, OptumHealth Education is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. OptumHealth Education maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 1.0 enduring continuing education credit.

Attendance
A certificate of attendance will be provided to learners upon completion of activity requirements, enabling participants to register with licensing boards or associations that have not been preapproved for credits.
