Roots of Leadership
Activity description
PLEASE NOTE: These materials are intended ONLY for those who attended the course held on July 10, 2025.
This program is designed for all providers and clinicians interested in leadership development and personal growth. Each pathway provides Optum professionals valuable insights into healthcare business acumen and key leadership competencies.
This program will enhance participants’ clinical oversight of day-to-day patient care management and quality, and their ability to contribute to the growth of physician leadership at Optum and support business development in new markets. Improvements in these areas will foster the development of integrated care plans that address the holistic needs of patients, lead to enhanced patient experiences and increase the growth of front-line physician leadership.
The Roots of Leadership program is a transformative development experience for aspiring and emerging clinician leaders. It aims to address critical gaps in clinical leadership by cultivating self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and professional networking. Through didactic training, practice-based learning, and peer dialogue, participants are empowered to integrate leadership principles into their daily practice.
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of providers and clinicians interested in leadership development and personal growth.
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Recognize and embrace diverse perspectives within teams and patient populations.
- Develop essential soft skills for effective and impactful leadership.
- Enhance emotional intelligence and identify unconscious bias in clinical and leadership settings.
- Build and maintain a professional network to support ongoing leadership development.
- Apply foundational tools and mindsets to lead oneself and others effectively.
- Commit to continuous personal and professional development as a clinician leader.
- Discuss strategies to collaborate effectively with interprofessional teams to promote overall mental wellness, including engaging in regular team meetings, sharing insights from different disciplines, and developing integrated care plans that address the holistic needs of patients.
