Lean Daily Management: Standardizing Work, Strengthening Outcomes. Improving Care for Those We Serve, Every Day

Activity description

This on-demand educational activity introduces LDM as a structured approach to improving quality, patient safety and team-based care delivery in health care settings. Participants will explore key LDM components—including standard work, visual management, daily huddles and leader standard work—and how these practices reduce variation, enhance communication and enable real-time problem identification.

Through practical examples and applied scenarios, learners will gain strategies to integrate LDM into daily operations, strengthen frontline engagement, and sustain continuous improvement across interprofessional teams.

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of interprofessional health care team members (physicians, nurses, medical assistants, clinic leaders, and others) who are interested in improving quality, patient safety and care delivery through LDM practices.

At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Define the key principles of LDM methodology, including standard work, visual management, huddles and leader standard work.
  • Explain how LDM may reduce variation and support quality and patient safety in health care settings.
  • Implement daily huddle structures and visual management boards to support team communication, accountability and early issue detection.
  • Apply observation techniques during a structured Gemba walk to understand real work conditions and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Design a leader standard work plan that integrates observations, coaching, standard work practices and structured problem-solving to support team performance.
