Activity description

Pediatric primary care has become an important venue for providing mental health services to children and adolescents. Integrated interventions with primary care providers as partners in the Medical Home Model designed to address mental health problems in pediatric health care can create optimal productivity and functionality for clinicians in joint patient care. This activity will discuss the role of effective integrated behavioral health care to aid in maximizing effectiveness and efficiency in joint visits.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, PAs, nurses, nurse practitioners, psychologists, social workers, case managers, counselors, family therapists and other HCPs who have an interest in learning about practical approaches when treating children diagnosed with mental health conditions.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize integrated behavioral health (IBH) as a subspecialty for clinical mental health providers and identify the most effective kind of IBH clinician for your practice.
  • Determine steps to train or enhance the model for integrated behavioral health for existing IBH clinicians to aid in maximizing effectiveness and efficiency in joint visits.
  • Analyze and adjust the current model of IBH to create more optimal productivity and functionality for clinicians in joint care.

About the presenter
Rickelle Hicks is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist practicing in the valley since 2007 when she graduated from Bethel Seminary in San Diego, CA. Her undergraduate was spent at Colorado State University where she graduated with a bachelors degree in Human Development and Family Studies. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Circles of Security, among many other modalities. Rickelle started our Integrated Behavioral Health program in March of 2022 with 8 years prior experience in embedded practice. She is passionate about helping patients within a medical home and collaborating care with providers to treat the mind and body in tandem. She sees children across developmental stages and has years of experience treating a wide variety of diagnoses. Her passion is to make individuals and families feel heard and safe exploring their mental health challenges. Rickelle was born and raised in Monument, CO but has found her home in Palisade with her three sons and husband. When not working she can be found at home or on the river.

Counselors and/or marriage and family therapists
CA: The Board of Behavioral Sciences has deferred CE course approvals to APA and ASWB for its licensees. See those approvals under Psychologists and Social Workers.
Other States: If your state is not specifically listed, nearly all state Counselor and MFT boards accept either APA or ASWB approval, or are reciprocal with other state licensing board approvals. Check with your board to be sure.

Attendance
A certificate of attendance will be provided to learners upon completion of activity requirements, enabling participants to register with licensing boards or associations that have not been preapproved for credits. To apply for credit types not listed above, participants should use the procedure established by the specific organization from which they wish to obtain credit.
