In this activity, we will discuss the importance of dementia and how it affects approximately 2.4 to 5.5 million people in the U.S. Because its prevalence increases with age, dementia is a major contributor to disability among older adults. It is imperative to properly diagnose and document the condition to provide quality care and improve outcomes.

Target Audience
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of nurses, physicians and other health care professionals interested in the care of individuals with neurocognitive disorders and/or dementia.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Recognize the significance of dementia in the Medicare population.
- Discuss various screening methods for dementia and neurocognitive disorders.
- Describe the clinical approach to diagnosing and differentiating types of dementia.
- Appropriately document dementia with and without behavioral disturbance.
