Nutrition of Newborns

This activity will focus on strategies to optimize neonatal nutrition from the moment of birth up to the point of discharge. It will provide an overview of optimal practices that ensure appropriate nutrient intake and explore ancillary therapies and supplemental methods. Participants will be guided through the process of transitioning neonates to a discharge feeding regimen and will review criteria on when and how to escalate feeding-related concerns.

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of nurses, nurse practitioners, PAs and physicians who have an interest in neonatal nutrition.
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Review nutritional strategies that optimize neonatal nutrition from birth through discharge.
- Discuss ancillary therapies associated with feeding the neonate.
- Summarize the process of transitioning neonates to a discharge feeding regimen.
- Cite medical director escalation criteria regarding feeding the neonate.

A certificate of attendance will be provided to learners upon completion of activity requirements, enabling participants to register with licensing boards or associations that have not been pre-approved for credits. To apply for credit types not listed above, participants should use the procedure established by the specific organization with which they wish to obtain credit.
