Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of nurses and other health care professionals (HCPs) who are interested in learning about congenital heart disease.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify signs and symptoms that could indicate congenital heart disease or a potential previously missed diagnosis of congenital heart disease in children and adults.
  • Compare presenting symptoms between the different congenital heart diseases.
  • Discuss treatment options, interventions, and the optimal time for referral for congenital heart disease.
  • Describe the overall impact of congenital heart disease on the patient and their families.
  • Examine the importance of the health care team to recognize the physiology and pathology of congenital heart disease so they can provide education and have discussions with families and make appropriate referrals.
