Evidence-based Colorectal Cancer Screening and Surveillance in Older Adults
Activity description
Decisions about colorectal cancer screening and surveillance in older adults require health care professionals (HCPs) to balance potential benefits with procedural risks, prior screening and polyp history, life expectancy, and overall health status. This activity will examine current evidence and recommendations for colorectal cancer screening and post-polypectomy surveillance, with particular attention to adults older than 75 years. Participants will explore how emerging evidence can inform individualized decisions about whether to continue, modify, or discontinue screening or surveillance and translate the evidence into practical clinical guidance.
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, PAs, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other HCPs who have an interest in learning about colorectal cancer screening and surveillance in older adults.
At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Evaluate current evidence and recommendations for colorectal cancer screening and post-polypectomy surveillance in adults older than 75 years.
- Assess how prior screening and polyp history, life expectancy, comorbidities, frailty, and procedural risk influence decisions to continue, modify, or discontinue colorectal cancer screening or surveillance.
- Apply evidence-based, patient-centered decision-making to individualize colorectal cancer screening and surveillance strategies for older adults.
