Autism Spectrum Disorder: Treatment Options for Children
This activity will focus on various evidence-based treatments for autism spectrum disorder (ASD), including psychopharmacology, complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), and intensive behavioral therapies, including applied behavioral analysis (ABA). The significance of early intervention services and educational support beyond preschool will be highlighted. In addition, the benefits of supportive practices such as mindfulness and stress management for caregivers will be explored.

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of counselors, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists/pharmacy technicians, physicians, PAs, psychologists, social workers, therapists and other health care professionals (HCPs) who have an interest in learning about autism spectrum disorder.
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the different evidence-based treatments for ASD.
- Determine the safety profiles of CAMs for the treatment of ASD.
- Describe the value and role of telehealth in the treatment of ASD.
- Explain the role and principles of ABA services as a form of treatment for children with ASD.
- Compare and contrast different types of autism therapies.
