The ACE study and the connection between adverse childhood experiences and trauma will be reviewed. Methods in which health care professionals (HCPs) can interact with individuals while expressing understanding and empathy in trauma-informed ways to promote healing and reduce the risk of retraumatization will also be discussed.
Suicide: Prevalence, Predictive Indicators and Interventional Treatments
  • Behavioral health
  • AMA - Physicians
  • ANCC - Nurses

$0.00 This activity will provide education about predictive indicators of suicide risk, and how to best evaluate individuals for these risks and stressors. The history and incidence of suicide, suicidal ideation, and suicide attempts will be examined, along with the prevalence of suicidality among certain populations, including those of differing gender, race, age, and socioeconomic groups. HCPs will identify interventional treatments that address suicide’s risk factors and how to incorporate interprofessional cooperation between HCPs and social service programs to intervene on behalf of patients who are at increased suicidal risk.

A review of optimal screening tools and treatment interventions will enable HCPs to better assess and treat SUDs, promote mental health, act to reduce SUD among adolescents, and decrease the potential risks for SUD in adulthood. Approaches to provide holistic mental health treatment and therapies for this population in cooperation with other specialties and community and social support services will be discussed.

It will provide an overview of the recent advances that have enhanced ECT treatment outcomes and compare this therapy with other existing and experimental brain-stimulation modalities, including transcranial magnetic stimulation. In addition, the influence of public perception of ECT on its selection as treatment will be examined, as well as current data surrounding cognitive side effects—with a focus on the types of amnesia associated with ECT—and how HCPs can effectively measure these in their patients.
