Roughly 50% of adolescents ages 14-18 report marijuana use, and two-thirds report alcohol use; nearly 20% of adolescents have used prescription medication such as stimulants and opioids without a prescription. Hospitalizations for prescription opioid overdoses among youth have greatly increased, and nearly 8% of adolescents report having used illicit substances such as heroin, cocaine, and MDMA.
