What Do I Need to Know About COVID-19?

Activity description

This activity consists of recorded presentations from the "29th Annual National Conference" held virtually Dec. 2–3, 2020.

The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Older adults and individuals with chronic comorbidities—such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, kidney disease, immunocompromised states, and obesity—are at higher risk for severe complications. Although COVID-19 is generally considered to be a respiratory disease, it can also cause catastrophic damage to multiple organ systems and cause many neurologic complications. Recovery can be slow and costly and have a huge impact on quality of life. In addition, there is increasing evidence that some racial and ethnic minority groups are being disproportionately affected by COVID-19. This session will discuss the mechanisms for COVID-19 pathogenesis, clinical manifestations and multiple-organ involvement, as well as the affiliated health inequities that exist.
