This activity explores the pivotal role and expanding scope of advanced practice clinicians (APCs) within the field of infectious disease (ID). Participants will gain insight into managing patients bound for travel to areas with limited health care access and delve into a wide range of ID topics including HIV pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP and PEP), latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI), STI screening and others. The content available in the new e-consult program will also be discussed.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of APCs practicing in primary care same-day services as well as APCs with a specific interest in infectious disease. 

Learning Objectives

At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the role and scope of practice for the APC working at Reliant Medical Group in ID.
  • Discuss approaches to managing patients that are traveling to a developing country and do not have time to see ID prior to departure.
  • Have a better understanding of various ID topics including HIV PrEP, STI screening, HIV PEP, LTBI, Hep B non-responders, MRSA, HIV, and Hep B infection. 
  • Identify content offered within the new ID e-consult program including the pre-immunosuppression and asplenia options.
