Activity description
This comprehensive learning journey is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and practices of healthcare professionals in delivering safe, high-quality patient- and member-centered care. By fostering collaboration, driving behavioral change and building a culture of continuous learning, this program empowers participants to explore the principles of high reliability, quality, patient safety and best practices. Participants will learn to identify errors and risks and implement improvements to enhance the care provided to patients and members.
It is designed to meet the educational needs of nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, physicians, PAs, psychologists and social workers.
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify the characteristics of highly reliable organizations and how to apply those principles to daily practice.
- Discuss the components of safety culture and the individual’s role in contributing to safety culture.
- Describe how to integrate recognition practices that reinforce and reward behaviors that enhance quality and patient safety.
- Identify quality and safety concerns and explore the benefits of proactive reporting and supporting a learning culture.
- Articulate why measuring Quality is important and explain the individual’s role in contributing to Quality.
- Evaluate strategies to develop SMART quality and patient safety goals.
- Outline behavior changes and practices that support prioritization and improvement of quality and patient safety.

Dietitians Completion of this RD/DTR profession-specific or IPCE activity awards CPEUs (One IPCE credit=One CPEU).
If the activity is dietetics-related but not targeted to RDs or DTRs, CPEUs may be claimed which are commensurate with participation in contact hours (One 60 minute hour=1 CPEU).
RD's and DTRs are to select activity type 102 in their Activity Log. Performance indicator selection is at the learner's discretion.
Psychologists
Optum Health Education is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to offer continuing education for psychologists. Optum Health Education maintains responsibility for this program. 7.00 CE hour.
Social workersAs a Jointly Accredited Organization, Optum Health Education is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Optum Health Education maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 7.00 enduring continuing education credits.
Case managers
The Commission for Case Manager Certification has approved this program for a maximum of 7.00 clock hours for Certified Case Managers (CCM).
Attendance
A certificate of attendance will be provided to learners upon completion of activity requirements, enabling participants to register with licensing boards or associations that have not been pre-approved for credits. To apply for credit types not listed above, participants should use the procedure established by the specific organization with which they wish to obtain credit.
