Coronary Artery Disease (CAD): Emphasis on Secondary Prevention, Post AMI/PCI

Activity description 

Individuals surviving an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) today have the option of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), also known as coronary angioplasty, reducing mortality and enabling individuals to restore their health. This activity will focus on current practices, recent pharmacologic treatments and advances in the management of CAD based on evidence-based medicine. Through the use of case study examples, learn the importance of screening and assessing mental and physical health in CAD.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of counselors, social workers, therapists, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and physicians interested in CAD.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify current practices and pharmacologic management of CAD based on guideline-directed medical therapy.
  • Discuss the role of lipid management in primary and secondary treatment of CAD.
  • Discuss the role of antithrombotic therapy in the management of CAD.
  • Review selective mechanisms by which behavioral health influences CAD outcomes.
  • Discuss screening and assessment of physical and behavioral health in CAD.
  • Explain current management of CAD through the use of case study examples.

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, OptumHealth Education is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. OptumHealth Education maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 1.00 live continuing education credits.

Counselors and/or marriage and family therapists
