Diabetes: Management and Prevention of Complications
Diabetes can have a devastating impact on individuals' quality of life. An effective multidisciplinary team approach for the optimal management of diabetes is needed. This activity will review the relationship of team members and their impact on diabetes care through screening, diagnosing, treatment and pharmaceutical management. The relationship between physical and behavioral health and its potential impact will be reviewed and, through the use of case study examples, optimal clinical management strategies for diabetes will be explored.
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to
- Explore clinical features, risk factors, screening, prevention, evaluation and treatment of diabetes.
- State the relationship between physical and behavioral health and its impact on diabetes.
- Discuss the pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments for managing diabetes.
- Discuss the importance of a multidisciplinary approach when treating diabetes.
- Identify optimal clinical management strategies for diabetes through case study examples.
