Evaluation and Management of Sleep Apnea

Activity description 

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a disorder that is characterized by obstructive apneas. The management of patients with OSA requires a multidisciplinary approach, and many treatment options are currently available. This activity will focus on current practices and advances in the management of sleep apnea based on evidence-based medicine. Ethical concerns in research and medical practices for sleep apnea will also be discussed.

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of counselors, social workers, therapists, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and physicians interested in sleep apnea.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify current practices, recent pharmacologic treatments and advances in the management of sleep apnea established by evidence-based medicine.
  • State best practices for sleep apnea through the use of case study examples.
  • Discuss the importance of screening and assessing patients’ mental and physical health in cases of sleep apnea.
