Practical Pearls in Managing Pediatric Aggression in Primary Care

Pediatric primary care providers play an important role in addressing behavioral health (BH) problems and the delivery of services to address these problems. This activity will discuss the management and treatment for pediatric aggression and the core symptoms of disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD), conduct disorder (CD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), and early onset bipolar disorder. ASD with aggressive behavior will also be highlighted.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, PAs, nurses, nurse practitioners, psychologists, social workers, case managers, counselors, family therapists and other HCPs who have an interest in learning about practical approaches when treating children diagnosed with mental health conditions.

About the presenter
Dr. Yamini Rao is a primary care pediatrician who specializes in mental health. She completed her medical school training at Vanderbilt University and her primary care focused pediatrics residency at University of California San Francisco. While working in primary care pediatrics, she saw the massive gap in pediatric mental health care resources. Motivated to help her community, Dr. Rao pursued further training in pediatric mental health through the REACH Institute, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, ECHO Colorado, and the Sunfield Institute for Autism. At her previous primary care clinic in Colorado, Dr. Rao helped build an integrated behavioral health program. She currently works with Lyra Clinical Associates focusing on psychiatric medication management for patients across the United States. Dr. Rao is dedicated to expanding access to pediatric mental health.
