About the presenter
Dr. Arema Pereira grew up in a family with deep roots in medicine and a childhood that spanned continents. Exposed to a great diversity of cultures and beliefs, she recognized the unifying need of all people, a pursuit of happiness and the critical role that health and well-being plays in this quest. Watching the steady stream of patients flow into her father’s community practice clinic, she marveled at the sense of hope and optimism that the art of medicine gifted its recipients. She never doubted her calling.

Dr. Pereira completed her medical school at St John’s National Academy of Health Sciences in Bangalore, India at age 21. With time on her side, she worked in research at Tufts University in Boston for 3 years before jumping back into medical training. After completing Internal Medicine residency at New York Presbyterian Cornell, she pursued an additional Hepatitis C fellowship at Cornell. Then with her husband and 2 toddlers in tow, she moved to the Pacific North West for GI fellowship at the University of Washington. She completed an additional liver transplant fellowship and currently works at The Everett Clinic, immediately north of Seattle. She spends her free time travelling with her husband and three children and dabbling in permaculture in their suburban backyard surrounded by their dog, chickens, bunnies, quails and mason bees.
