Activity description
Outpatient joint replacement surgery is considered by many to be safe, convenient and cost effective across an ever-widening array of procedures. This delivery model has the potential to increase patient comfort and satisfaction, while improving efficiency and reducing health care costs.

These monthly activities will review best practices for outpatient joint replacement protocols and procedures. They will focus on a model that enables improved access to high-quality care at lower costs with the goals of improving surgical care, mitigating risks and barriers to enable rapid discharge, and achieving high-quality patient outcomes.

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of anesthesiologists, nurses, nurse practitioners, PAs and physicians who have an interest in outpatient surgical care.

About the presenter

Dr. Frank Rowan is a native of the St. Petersburg, Fla. region. Having joined the Guilford Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center in 1993, he brings an enriched training history to the practice.
The experiences as an F-16 flight surgeon in the United States Air Force (USAF) combined with his extensive orthopaedic training in adult reconstructive surgical techniques have allowed Dr. Rowan to be one of the most respected surgeons in the Greater Triad Region. Dr. Rowan is a competent and knowledgeable physician when it comes to occupational and cumulative trauma work-related injuries, addressing the specific nature, severity and physical demands of work-related injuries.  
Dr. Rowan has served as team physician for Ragsdale High School for thirteen years while offering quality medical care to athletes of all competitive levels of sport including North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro Black Belt Academy, and Tumblebees Ultimate Gym. In addition to these areas of service, Dr. Rowan has participated as a clinical instructor of PA students from Wake Forest University and nursing students from Cone Hospital.
