Ocular Telemedicine for Vision Care

Activity description

This activity is designed to provide health care professionals (HCPs) involved in vision care with a practical, evidence based overview of ocular telemedicine. It will review core definitions and service models of ocular telemedicine and highlight real world benefits, challenges and clinical limitations. Implementation concerns such as technology, staffing, workflow integration and patient communication will be discussed, along with regulatory, compliance and reimbursement considerations. Learners will gain an increased understanding of how to responsibly integrate ocular telemedicine into their own practice setting, along with actionable insights supporting improved access to vision care and enhanced screening and prevention.

This course is designed for HCPs, including optometrists, ophthalmologists, health care administrators and quality improvement specialists.

At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe foundational models and clinical applications of ocular telemedicine in vision care delivery.
  • Differentiate appropriate uses and clinical limitations of ocular telemedicine compared with in person eye examinations.
  • Identify key considerations for implementing ocular telemedicine, including workflow integration, staffing, technology and patient education.
