Genetic Syndromes

March 8, 2023

Activity description

These materials are only intended for those that attended the live activity, Genetic Syndromes, held March 8, 2023.

Establishing a clinical diagnosis and specialized management plan for neonates with genetic syndromes in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is essential to promote positive outcomes, as many genetic syndromes that present during this time are linked with high rates of infant mortality. Health care professionals (HCPs) working in, and with, the NICU must have a strong understanding of the potential genetic syndromes that may be encountered, as well as familiarity with these neonates’ expected course of hospitalization and required support. This activity will provide an overview of commonly encountered genetic syndromes in the NICU, key evaluative processes, associated clinical manifestations and potential complications. It will also describe optimal supportive care measures for neonates with genetic syndrome that have been shown to improve outcomes and identify common barriers to discharge.
