Heart Failure: Part I

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

Heart failure is a cardiovascular disease with an increasing hospitalization burden, entailing high morbidity and mortality as well as high costs. The prevalence of heart failure increases with advancing age. Acute and chronic management strategies in heart failure are aimed at improving both symptoms and prognosis, although management of individuals will depend on the underlying etiology and the severity of the condition.

This activity will review the pathophysiology between diastolic and systolic heart failure and identify the elements of an appropriate workup in both a primary care setting and in a skilled nursing facility.
