Dr. Shaw-Rice is board certified in internal medicine and is a Medical Director with UnitedHealthcare - Community and State based in Houston, Texas. She has worked as an executive leader in administrative health care for over 10 years. Before that, she had a clinical practice for 20 years, and she was the recipient of the Patient’s Choice Award and Top Doc award for many years. Her primary clinical focus has been the management and reduction of cardiovascular risk factors in marginalized communities. Today, her main focus is in the area of process improvement and program redesign. She has a particular interest in utilization management, population health, relationship building and cultural competence.
Dr. Shaw-Rice is a Certified Medical Executive (CPE) through the American Association for Physician leadership and a Certified Peer Reviewer. She is also certified in health care quality management. Dr. Shaw-Rice obtained her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, completed her residency in internal medicine in Houston at the Baylor College of Medicine and earned a Master's degree in medical management (MMM) from Carnegie Mellon University. She is fluent in both English and Spanish.
