Infertility: Elective Single-Embryo Transfer (eSET)

Infertility is a fairly common occurrence, wherein about 15 percent of couples are unable to conceive after six months to one year of attempting pregnancy. There are medical treatments that are specific to assist infertile couples with conception, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). IVF involves the transfer of an embryo into a woman’s uterus with the hopes of leading to a healthy pregnancy. Despite a significant push from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) promoting eSET, more than 85 percent of IVF successes are as a result of the transfer of multiple embryos, with the attended risk of a multiple gestation. This session will review the infertility standard of care pathway, the benefits of eSET and strategies to increase the use of eSET.
