Advancing COPD Care in Primary Practice: Early Diagnosis, Targeted Therapy, and High Value Interventions

March 31, 2026

Activity description

This live webcast will provide primary care clinicians with a practical, guideline aligned approach to improving COPD care, including earlier and more accurate diagnosis through consistent spirometry use and optimization of inhaled therapy. It will highlight targeted and appropriate use of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS), including how to identify patients unlikely to benefit and how to minimize ICS-related risks. The activity will also review standardized strategies for managing exacerbations, emphasize high value non pharmacologic interventions—particularly pulmonary rehabilitation, inhaler technique education, and adherence support—and outline coordinated, cost-conscious care pathways, including appropriate pulmonology referral and careful selection of advanced therapies such as biologics for those patients most likely to benefit.

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, PAs, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists and other HCPs who have an interest in learning about the management of COPD.

At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Apply GOLD 2026 guidance to improve early and accurate diagnosis of COPD, including appropriate use of spirometry in at-risk adults.
  • Optimize pharmacologic management of COPD, including appropriate initiation, follow-up, and targeted use of inhaled corticosteroids.
  • Manage COPD exacerbations effectively using standardized protocols, action plans, and post-event optimization.
  • Prioritize high-value non-pharmacologic interventions, including pulmonary rehabilitation, patient education, and adherence strategies.
  • Implement coordinated, cost-effective care pathways, including pulmonology referral and appropriate selection of advanced therapies such as biologics.
