Skin and soft tissue infections are among the most common bacterial infections and can present multiple challenges that can be navigated successfully through early diagnosis, correct identification of pathogens and precise antibiotic therapy. This presentation will discuss some of the most common presentations of cellulitis and other soft tissue infections and will present a simplified approach to the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of nurse practitioners, PAs and physicians who have an interest in learning about skin infections, which are one of the most common reasons for outpatient antibiotic use.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Accurately identify common skin infections.
  • Recognize optimal antibiotic selections for specific bacterial pathogens.
  • Identify severe infections that may require hospitalization involving a multidisciplinary team of consultants.
