Activity description

The Forum was designed for medical directors and other clinical executives/leaders working in the managed health care industry. During this two-day, live conference experts shared their insights into topics that are critical to the management of large patient populations. This year’s Forum focused on innovations and evidence-based research related to optimizing patient care, outcomes and benefit management.

Learning Objectives

As a result of attending this conference, learners should be able to:

  • Discuss the comprehensive history and current clinical developments in the opioid epidemic, focusing on origins, escalation, and strategies for safe opioid use and management of opioid use disorder.
  • Review the structure, role and challenges of specialty pharmacies and develop strategies to improve patient outcomes and reduce costs associated with specialty drug therapies. 
  • Identify current pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic management strategies for heart failure, including early detection, reversible causes, and hospital readmission prevention.
  • Evaluate the role and impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies in primary care and population health, emphasizing predictive analytics, disease management and care coordination.
  • Review effective strategies for providing palliative care to patients with chronic conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and congestive heart failure (CHF), emphasizing patient-centered communication and end-of-life care preferences.
  • Discuss integrated care models and evidence-based treatment strategies for managing both mental and physical health in individuals with serious mental illness.
  • State the methodology for accurate COPD diagnosis and evaluate the effectiveness of novel therapies in reducing inflammation and exacerbations as highlighted in the 2024 GOLD report.

American Board of Internal Medicine
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 6.75 Medical Knowledge Maintenance of Certification (MOC) points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) MOC program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

PAs
The American Academy of PAs (AAPA) accepts credit from organizations accredited by the ACCME.

AAPC-certified coders
AAPC will honor 1-for-1 CEUs for any live event offering CME credit or AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. A certificate of attendance or completion is necessary to show participation. The certificate will give the total CMEs possible for the offering. Physicians are advised to claim only the actual hours that they were present during the education. If the activity is dietetics-related but not targeted to RDs or DTRs, CPEUs may be claimed which are commensurate with participation in contact hours (One 60 minute hour=1 CPEU). 

RD's and DTRs are to select activity type 102 in their Activity Log. Performance indicator selection is at the learner's discretion. 

Psychologists
Optum Health Education is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to offer continuing education for psychologists. Optum Health Education maintains responsibility for this program. 6.75 CE hour.

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Optum Health Education is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Optum Health Education maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive up to 6.75 live continuing education credits.

Attendance
A certificate of attendance will be provided to learners upon completion of activity requirements, enabling participants to register with licensing boards or associations that have not been preapproved for credits.
