Personalized Medicine in Inflammatory Bowel Disease Management
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
This activity consists of a recorded presentation from the "34th Annual National Conference" held in Minneapolis, Minn., May 13-15, 2025.
Join us to explore the role of personalized medicine in the management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including the genetic and environmental factors that contribute to this disease. The Selecting Therapeutic Targets in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (STRIDE-II) framework of evidence- and consensus-based recommendations for IBD treatment strategies will be reviewed, and the significance of biomarkers in guiding individualized therapy will be highlighted, with a focus on emerging therapies such as JAK inhibitors and S1P receptor modulators.

Joel Pekow, MD, is an associate professor of medicine at the University of Chicago and a gastroenterologist with an expertise in the care of patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). His research focuses on clinical and translational studies in IBD with a goal of discovering mechanisms and diagnostic modalities to understand risk of disease progression, cancer development, outcomes associated with IBD, and response to therapy. He is the director of the digestive disease translational core of the at the University of Chicago.
