Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited blood disorder caused by a gene mutation that leads to the production of abnormal hemoglobin that distorts red blood cells into a crescent or sickle shape. Complications of SCD are lifelong and can be life threatening.

During this activity, presenters will discuss CF and the different genetic etiologies and examine how an individual’s genetic profile can be utilized to develop a personalized treatment plan. The role that an informed interprofessional health care team can play in improved disease outcomes will also be examined.
This activity will provide learners with current data surrounding multiple factors that predispose Black patients to either increased risk or resilience for CVD and will examine the risk- and resilience-associated diversity within this population with the goal of improving cardiovascular health for these individuals.
