Women's Mental Health

Activity description

Across their lifespans, women may experience many mental health issues that can be unique to their life stages. Often, these conditions may present in a different manner than in men, and the prevalence of these conditions can vary by age group. It is important for health care providers (HCPs) to be aware of these differing presentations and to be informed about management approaches, including workup examinations and treatment choices. This activity will provide an overview of the psychiatric conditions experienced by women across their lifespans and alert HCPs to differences in symptom patterns, evaluation, and treatment, as compared to those of men. In addition, diagnostic criteria and management considerations for psychiatric conditions specific to women’s reproductive lifespans, such as those associated with perimenopause, postmenopause, pregnancy, the postpartum period, and the menstrual cycle, will be discussed.
