This program is a series of monthly lectures, pertinent to primary care for new graduate advanced practitioners. The goal of this series is to provide an introduction to specific diagnoses, work ups and specialty content as it relates to primary care. This program will review topics surrounding hematology/oncology.

Target Audience
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of all new graduate advanced practitioners, most commonly nurse practitioners and PAs practicing in the primary care setting that have an interest in learning about hematology/oncology.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe microcytic anemia, normocytic anemia and macrocytic anemia.
- Determine the correct diagnostics and labs to order for the evaluation of the three types of anemia in a primary care setting.
- Recognize anemia parameters to establish when to refer to hematology.
- Recognize the responsibilities of a Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator and Breast Surgeon in the care of breast cancer patients.
- Establish the role of the Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator.
- Discuss benign breast symptoms and management.
- Identify the navigation process for breast cancer care at RMG.
- Examine the pathophysiology and risk factors for venous thromboembolism.
- Describe inherited and acquired thrombophilia's, including the epidemiology, characteristics, diagnostic evaluation, and management.
- Discuss the decision-making strategies and limitations of thrombophilia testing and selection of patients based on recurrence risk and bleeding.
