This conference is designed for health care professionals who care for and/or manage patients’ health care benefits, as well as those who have an interest in solid organ transplantation — including kidney, pancreas, liver, heart, lung, and pediatric transplants — with added emphasis on management of unique complications associated with transplantation. In addition, the conference will address heart failure, stem cell transplantation, bone marrow transplantation and islet cell transplantation.

Conference educational objectives
After completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Identify developments in kidney transplantation, including the management of highly sensitized patients, new approaches to immunosuppression minimization, and current research in clinical tolerance induction;
- Recognize the impact and importance of the multidisciplinary team in optimizing outcomes and successful management of transplant recipients;
- Examine pancreas and islet transplantation for the treatment of diabetes.
- State advances, outcomes, and trends in living-donor liver and kidney transplantation;
- Relate emerging trends in advanced heart failure, focusing on the role of medical management, left-ventricular-assist devices, and cardiac transplantation;
- Describe the role of the depletion of alpha/beta cells in haploidentical transplantation in reducing graft-versus-host disease;
- Review current practices in donation-after-cardiac-death (DCD) transplantation and state the impact of the organ procurement organization and transplant program's relationship on the success of a DCD program;
- List indications, outcomes, and current trends in lung transplantation.
- State the changes driven by the Milan criteria for liver transplant patients with hepatocellular cancer and alcoholic liver disease;
- Discuss the advances in organ preservation methods, techniques and device usage, as well as its future direction in organ transplantation; and
- Describe the experience of organ donation from a transplant recipient's perspective.
