Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of case managers, coders, dietitians, dietetic technicians, managed care nurses, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, PAs, physicians, psychologists, social workers, transplant coordinators and other health care professionals.

Learning Objectives

As a result of attending this conference, learners should be able to:

  • Identify existing disparities in the field of transplantation and recognize the value of current programs and initiatives to improve equity and increase access to care.
  • Report on the current and potential roles of mixed chimerism monitoring in assessing posttransplant health status and predicting long-term outcomes.
  • Recognize the impact of the opioid epidemic and fentanyl-associated deaths on the donor organ supply, solid organ waiting lists, transplant candidacy, and posttransplant outcomes.
  • Define the current and potential utilization of nanotechnology in transplant medicine as targeted immunosuppressive drug delivery systems.
  • Compare the use of CAR T-cell therapy versus autologous hematopoietic cell transplantation in relapsed lymphoma.
  • Identify clinical management strategies surrounding intestinal rehabilitation and transplantation.
  • Discuss strategies to integrate optimal diagnostic testing practices for non-small cell lung cancer into practice.
  • Examine the effects of the gut microbiome on cancer progression and immunotherapeutic response through inflammatory pathways.
  • Report on ways that health care professionals can process and honor personal grief experienced in response to patient-related traumatic illness and loss.
  • Describe recent studies on breast cancer demonstrating favorable therapeutic responses and indicating that inclusion of diversity in clinical trials can lead to improved survival rates.

AAPC will honor 1-for-1 CEUs for any live event offering CME credit or AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. A certificate of attendance or completion is necessary to show participation. The certificate will give the total CMEs possible for the offering. Physicians are advised to claim only the actual hours that they were present during the education. We ask that AAPC-certified members abide by this request also. One hour of instruction is worth one CEU.

Case managers
The Commission for Case Manager Certification has approved this program for a maximum of 12.25 clock hours for Certified Case Managers (CCM).

Dietitians 
Completion of this RD/DTR profession-specific or IPCE activity awards CPEUs (One IPCE credit=One CPEU). 

If the activity is dietetics-related but not targeted to RDs or DTRs, CPEUs may be claimed which are commensurate with participation in contact hours (One 60 minute hour=1 CPEU). 

RD's and DTRs are to select activity type 102 in their Activity Log. Performance indicator selection is at the learner's discretion. 

Managed Care Nurses
This activity has been approved for a maximum of 12.25 clock hours for Certified Managed Care Nurse (CMCN) recertification by the American Board of Managed Care Nursing (ABMCN).

Psychologists
Optum Health Education is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to offer continuing education for psychologists. Optum Health Education maintains responsibility for this program. 12.25 CE hour.

Social workers

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Optum Health Education is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Optum Health Education maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive up to12.25 live continuing education credits.

Transplant coordinators, transplant nurses, procurement transplant coordinators
The American Board for Transplant Certification (ABTC) has approved this educational offering for up to 12.25 Category 1 Continuing Education Points for Transplant Certification (CEPTCs).

ILNA coding
The program content has been reviewed by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) and is acceptable for recertification points.
