About this Conference

"The History and Future: Kidney, Liver and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation" is designed to offer an overview of the evolution of three common categories of transplantation. Faculty who actively practice transplantation and transplant management in their specific areas of expertise will provide the audience with a historical base, current standard of care, and a glimpse into the future of the whole transplant process. The audience will learn how all aspects of the transplant process may be impacted by Health Care Reform, availability of organs, our aging population, and individual psychosocial and socioeconomic situations.

Presentations will cover both the basics and the details, from teaching the difference between an autologous or allogeneic stem cell transplant to helping health care professionals determine whether a person with hepatocellular cancer really should be considered an appropriate transplant recipient. These and other questions will be answered by the expert clinicians who work with these issues and patients everyday.
