Full Protocol Dialectical Behavior Therapy: Intensive

November 3, 2025 to December 15, 2025

Activity description

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a type of evidence-based psychotherapy that focuses on teaching skills to individuals on how to regulate emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, and cope with stress. It was originally developed by Marsha Linehan to treat chronic suicidality and borderline personality disorder but has since been adapted to treat a variety of other mental health conditions. DBT emphasizes the importance of balancing acceptance and change, and uses a combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and interpersonal skills to help individuals develop healthier coping mechanism. This training will delve into the manual to support clinicians in applying DBT as it was manualized to support complex patients with risky behavioral presentations.

This activity is designed for the behavioral health professionals.

At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the foundational theories of DBT.
  • Apply treatment adherently in its structure by using its core strategies in both group and individual therapy.
  • Articulate and convey the function of telephone skills coaching and orient a patient effectively to the treatment component.
  • Recognize and teach skills to individuals and in group settings as outlined in the skills training manual.
  • Explain and utilize the function of a consultation team in the context of treating patients with DBT and participate with the consultation team on a weekly basis.
