Providing affirming and equitable care for LGBTQ+ individuals is crucial to mitigate the existing health disparities experienced by members of this community, including stigma, marginalization and lack of access to culturally competent care. This activity aims to promote a more inclusive and understanding health care experience and foster better outcomes for LGBTQ+ individuals through an in-depth exploration of the health care challenges and disparities faced by this community. This activity will discuss diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and the fluidity within these concepts and will also examine stigmas as conveyed through macro- and micro-aggressions. Participants will gain insight into best practices for creating inclusive health care environments, communicating in affirming ways and combating stigma in the LGBTQ+ individual’s health care journey. Resources will be provided that health care professionals and patients can utilize for interventions and support.
