This activity focuses on the current state of COVID-19 vaccine development. It discusses which vaccine types are being developed and where they are in the clinical trial process. Additionally, this activity identifies what it means for a health system to participate in a vaccine study and how health care professionals can make informed decisions about vaccines with limited available data.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, PAs, psychologists, social workers and physicians who have an interest in COVID-19 vaccine development.

Dr. Griffin is a physician-scientist, educator, researcher, clinician and author who is board certified in Infectious Disease with expertise in global health, tropical medicine, parasitology, and virology including SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). He is Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at ProHEALTH New York, which is the largest physician-owned multispecialty practice in the United States with >1,000 physicians. He is a clinical instructor of medicine in the Department of Medicine–Division of Infectious Diseases at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, a researcher at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, President of Parasites Without Borders, Inc., the Senior Fellow for Infectious Disease – UnitedHealth Group and a provider of clinical inpatient and outpatient infectious disease care at ProHEALTH New York. Dr. Griffin is a speaker and educator who has lectured throughout the world on global health topics for the University of Glasgow, the Peace Corp, the University of Minnesota, the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC), Floating Doctors and Remote Care Education, as well as for other groups in Asia, the Caribbean, Central America, Africa, and India. He is one of the co-hosts of the popular 5-star rated podcasts This Week in Parasitism and This Week in Virology and one of the authors of Parasitic Diseases, which is currently in its 7th edition with thousands of copies distributed in over 100 countries around the world.
