Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: Mainstays of Management and Advances in Treatment

Activity description

This activity consists of recorded presentations from the "30th Annual National Conference" held virtually Sept. 29–30, 2021.

The autoimmune nature of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) defines its propensity to attack multiple organ systems, including the kidneys, joints, brain, skin and cardiovascular system. Recently approved treatments for SLE-associated inflammatory conditions include B-cell inhibitors and calcineurin blockers that target lupus nephritis (LN) and make complete renal response possible. Clinical trials are underway for future drugs as well. A review of SLE treatment guidelines, identification of new add-on treatments, and an understanding of how to establish and reach treatment goals can improve outcomes and increase remission rates, as current treatment often involves a trial-and-error approach that can be frustrating for health care providers and patients alike.
