Obesity & Diabetes Management: It’s So Much More Than Just A “Magic Pill”
The successful management of obesity—a complex, chronic and relapsing disease—through sustainable weight loss interventions can greatly improve individuals’ overall health status and diminish the severity of concomitant diseases such as diabetes. This activity will provide an overview of obesity and diabetes that describes effective multi-interventional approaches to weight loss and, importantly, highlights the role of incorporated lifestyle changes in promoting the likelihood of weight loss success and improved health outcomes. The conversational style of this activity will encourage discussion around obesity-care planning and examine the factors that must be considered due to the chronic and relapsing characteristics of this disease.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the most common infectious illness, particularly among individuals aged 65 years and older, and affect roughly 20% to 35% of women during their lifetime. UTIs contribute to 8 million ambulatory visits and 1 million hospitalizations annually in the US. This podcast will provide an overview of updated approaches to UTI detection, diagnosis and treatment; review common uropathogens; and highlight the distinctive challenges of UTIs related to infection characteristics and complications. Opioid prescribing guidelines provide clear and comprehensive, evidence-based recommendations incorporating current information and practices for practitioners. This activity will examine the scope, impact, key statistics and factors contributing to the opioid crisis and highlight the current recommended opioid prescribing guidelines, their challenges and the role of state prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMP). Strategies to aid in implementing the opioid prescribing guidelines and to mitigate the opioid crisis will also be discussed.

TennCare, in collaboration with Optum Rx, developed a multimodal program focused on encouraging LAI antipsychotic utilization and improving outcomes for patients with schizophrenia. This E-newsletter will provide an overview of the program, including details regarding the benefits of LAI atypical antipsychotics and other available agents, a brief review of schizophrenia and potential clinical steps. Additional information regarding the retrospective drug utilization review process and the rationale for brand drug preference will also be highlighted.
