Optimizing Treatment Adherence to Improve Population Health and Productivity
Motivating and sustaining healthful behavior change is the key to improving population health and productivity and controlling health care costs. Research has shown that adherence to four specific healthy-lifestyle-related behaviors has been associated with increased longevity and improved functional health status. By adhering to these recommendations, Americans can substantially reduce their risk of developing major chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer. Unfortunately, adherence to these behaviors is relatively low among the national population. This session will discuss effective strategies to engage physicians and employees, make wellness and disease management programs effective, and explain how health behavior research has shown that helping people identify threats to their health facilitates the process of healthy change.
This educational activity consists of recorded presentations from the 2010 Innovations in Wellness and Disease Management conference held in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 17-18, 2010.
