Clinical Conversations: Dementia

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

In this expert interview, Martin J. Levine, M.D., examines dementia care through a practical, clinician centered lens, emphasizing that diagnosis alone is insufficient to meet the needs of patients and families. The discussion highlights the real world challenges families face and the importance of moving beyond tests and medications to provide clear communication, compassionate, people centered support, and longitudinal guidance. Drawing on real world examples, Dr. Levine underscores the role of biopsychosocial, team based care approaches and practical strategies clinicians can use to better support patients and caregivers, improve engagement, and enhance care planning and outcomes in dementia care.

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, PAs, physicians, psychologists and other health care professionals.

At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify key non-biomedical needs of patients with dementia and their caregivers (e.g., safety, disease understanding, behavioral management, and care planning) to inform comprehensive, team-based support in primary care.
