Clinical Conversations: COPD & The Human Impact

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

This expert interview highlights practical strategies to improve the identification and management of COPD in real world practice, emphasizing the shift from reactive care toward proactive case finding of at risk and symptomatic individuals who may otherwise go undiagnosed. Drawing on the GOLD 2025 report, the discussion explores approaches such as patient completed questionnaires, community outreach, and clearer clinical pathways to support earlier detection, even in settings with limited time and access to spirometry. The importance of clinician empathy and understanding of the patient experience is also emphasized to enhance engagement and care. By focusing on scalable, team based approaches, this interview equips clinicians with actionable strategies to reduce underdiagnosis and improve long term outcomes in COPD.

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, PAs, physicians, psychologists and other health care professionals.

At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Differentiate active case finding from routine screening and identify practical strategies (e.g., use of patient questionnaires and community‑based outreach) to support earlier detection and evaluation of patients at risk for COPD.
