AI-Powered Transplant Success: Optimizing Organ Allocation
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
This activity consists of a recorded presentation from the "34th Annual National Conference" held in Minneapolis, Minn., May 13-15, 2025.
This activity will explore the ways in which artificial intelligence (AI) can improve organ allocation and transplantation medicine. This session will delve into how AI-driven algorithms enhance organ-matching precision, help predict transplant outcomes and optimize postoperative care. Participants will gain insight into the practical integration of AI into transplant practices, learn innovative strategies, and discuss real-world examples that demonstrate improved patient care and improve transplant success rates.

About the presenter
Dorry Segev, MD, PhD, is a transplant surgeon and the founder and director of the Epidemiology Research Group in Organ Transplantation (ERGOT), an eclectic, multidisciplinary group of nearly 100 researchers and trainees currently funded by 12 NIH R01s and U01s. With an undergraduate degree in computer science and a graduate degree in biostatistics, Dr. Segev focuses on novel statistical and mathematical methods for simulation of medical data, analysis of large health care datasets, and outcomes research. With over 600 peer-reviewed research publications, his work has directly impacted policy, including two Congressional bills. He was recently elected to the National Academy of Medicine. However, Segev is most inspired by his role as a mentor and is the only general surgeon in the U.S. funded by an NIH/NIDDK Mentoring Grant.

Credit designation statements
This activity was planned by and for the health care team, and learners will receive 1.00 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credits for learning and change.
Physicians
Optum Health Education designates this enduring activity for a maximum of 1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
PAs
The American Academy of PAs (AAPA) accepts credit from organizations accredited by the ACCME.
Pharmacists/Pharmacy technicians
This activity is approved for 1.00 contact hours (0.10 CEUs) in states that recognize ACPE.
Attending the full program will earn 1.00 contact hours (0.10 CEUs).
