Learning objectives

At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Explain how to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) innovations into transplant care to enhance donor-recipient matching, improve post-operative outcomes and advance patient quality of life through practical and strategic applications.
  • Identify the genetic and environmental factors influencing aortic aneurysms and advancements in screening, diagnosis and innovative treatments to enhance personalized patient care and outcomes.
  • Describe the latest guidelines and therapeutic options for lipid management, focusing on individualized approaches and strategies for managing elevated lipid profiles in special populations to optimize cardiovascular health.
  • Review new data on GLP-1 agonists, including benefits and risks, the risk of pulmonary aspiration during anesthesia, and recent GLP-1 agonist approval for obesity-related obstructive sleep apnea, with a focus on the associated clinical implications.
  • Discuss approaches to providing empathetic and compassionate end-of-life care, fostering communication that respects patient dignity and creating supportive environments for patients, families and health care professionals.
  • Report on advancements in genetic testing and targeted therapies for pediatric cancers, including rare-disease specific drugs, and strategies for their integration into routine clinical practice.
  • Explain how to distinguish between musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries requiring early specialist intervention and those manageable conservatively, utilizing high-value care principles and biopsychosocial models for optimal outcomes.
  • Identify the mechanisms and psychosocial impacts of migraines, advances in treatment and preventive strategies to enhance quality of life and care.
  • Describe the pandemic’s lasting impact on alcohol use, associated health risks and evidence-based interventions for alcohol use disorder (AUD), emphasizing early screening and integrated care approaches.
