$0.00 The use of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and virtual medicine (e.g., telehealth) technologies has continued to grow exponentially over the past few years and has become an essential part of delivering health care services that allow for improved continuity of care, convenience, increased efficiency, and decreased costs. The ability of AI to improve health outcomes is only as good as its implementation and incorporation into clinical processes and is accompanied by legal, regulatory, and reimbursement issues that must be considered.

$0.00 The COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve and present new health burdens, including the emergence of the more easily transmissible Delta variant (i.e., the B.1.617.2. variant, a mutation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus), which highlights the need for continued support of vaccination, and the development of chronic long-term sequelae collectively termed “long COVID,” which affects 10–20 percent of COVID-19-positive patients with new, persistent symptoms ranging from joint pain and chronic shortness of breath to cognitive dysfunction. Significant knowledge gaps exist in regard to these concerns; many patients with long COVID risk having symptoms dismissed, and more clinical studies are needed on the infectious profile of the Delta variant and how to best utilize vaccines and potential boosters to combat infections.

$0.00 A lack of meaningful representation of certain racial and ethnic minorities persists in many fields of medicine, including that of oncology, despite diversity’s association with (as stated by the Institute of Medicine) “improved access to care for racial and ethnic minority patients, greater patient choice and satisfaction, better patient-provider communication, and better educational experiences for all students while in training.” Explore the multiple initiatives that have been created to remedy inequities that impact health outcomes for minority groups—such as disparities in social determinants of health and access to a high-quality and ethnically diverse oncology workforce.
