This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and case managers who have an interest in personalized health-management support and services that include wellness programs, decision support, disease management conditions, complex-medical-condition support, case and utilization management programs, and physical health programs.

Activity Description: 

This educational activity consists of recorded presentations from 20th Annual National Conference held in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 4-6, 2011.
The prevalence of extreme obesity is increasing rapidly, as are the human and economic costs of obesity-related diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, weight-bearing joint disorders, sleep apnea, and lipid abnormalities. Bariatric surgeries are no longer limited to addressing just weight loss issues. This presentation will identify the usefulness of these procedures that are now extended to treat other chronic conditions and discuss the value of these procedures for chronic-disease management.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to

  1. List chronic conditions wherein bariatric surgery may provide value in chronic-disease management.
  2. Analyze the safety, efficacy and associated complications of bariatric procedures in chronic-disease management.
