Women and Coronary Artery Disease: Overcoming Barriers to Optimal Management

The purpose of this activity is for physicians to understand potential barriers to treatment that women with CAD face and how these barriers relate to their understanding and management of their disease. This case-based forum will examine the latest information on CAD, including guidelines specifically for women, as well as the importance of adherence and health literacy fostered by improved patient education and communication, which will ultimately improve clinical outcomes.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to

  1. List 4 risk factors for CAD
  2. List 2 barriers to treatment
  3. Recall 3 symptoms of myocardial infraction (MI) that are more common in women
  4. Name the2 most common barriers to the optimal management of CAD in women
  5. Explain 3 techniques for improving physician-patient communication
